Sounds like your doing a mix of #1 and 2, leaning heavily on choice#2.

I was caught in a similar situation. I've decided to go for #2 more aggressively. After that goal is finished, I will re-mod it back to #1. If you do plan on tracking the car with your set-up, you'll need to spend at least $4k minimum with Motons and upwards for Penskes or ASM/Sachs. If you go with "crappier" $3k coilovers, then you might need to detune your car. Can't have it both ways. If you are going to track it, I would suggest signing up for a DE with your car, borrow someone else's, or rent a car to drive. You'll quickly learn that people with skills will slaughter your 472-hp car with their stock 140-hp Miata. I've tracked my cars since 1999, so I know a thing or two about this.

If you're going to drag-race your car instead, Toyo RA-1s are the wrong tires.

Your response is pretty common. In the tuning scene, it doesn't matter if you spend $30K or $100K on a car--chances are you will mod it in one way or another. Sure, a $100K car should require less money to mod, but it isn't a guarantee.
no, $100k cars require much more to mod (figure triple to quadruple to what you're paying now for the same parts)

I understand what you are saying about quality coilovers. If I get serious in road racing, I will get Motons at the very least. Until that point, I would simply like to go out and open the car up on the course (easing it up on the tighter corners of course).

The RA-1s are for round-the-town or road racing only. I wouldn't use them for drag racing. I've already purchased a set of AP1 rear wheels, and would either use DRs or slicks.

I wouldn't use RA-1s for the street. Streetwear on R-compound tires are much harsher and would actually degrade the performance of the tire. You would end up doing better performance-wise on a street tire on the street and you wouldn't get what you want out of the R-compound tire on the track.

You've got money, just buy a dedicated set of wheels with the RA-1s for track only.

Like I mentioned before, my S2000 isn't my daily driver and maybe gets driven once a week (weekend only, no rain). I don't know of a street tire that can compete with the RA-1 (or A048 for that matter). I am not concerned with tread wear as the annual mileage will be very low. I am mainly concerned with max grip.

Sure, I could buy another set of wheels and RA-1s for track purposes only.
