I thought Chevron was the only gas that had its own distribution network?

I've always pumped the high grade weather it was generic or name brand. Never noticed any real difference between any of them.
On my current trip to the west coast, I did stop in a small town and pulled into a no-name convience store and began pumping a mid-grade (89-90octane) the best they had. Midway through the pumping, I noticed
the ethanol label but continued to fill the tank. This wasn't pure ethanol ,only that ethanol had been added.
I returned to the Interstate and then noticed a CEL (engine) lit up. The car seemed to run well with this blend but the light remaind on for a couple of hours then went off. The remainder of the trip I was always aware of the type of gas I was pumping (no more ethanol) and haven't seen a CEL since.
Since the CEL light went out before I pumped pure gasoline, I assume the engine began to adjust to the ethanol but from now on I'll always be sure not to pump this type of fuel again.

i noticed the difference in gas big time when at the dragon earlier this year. i had filled up at the junky gas pump at deal's gap, and when driving on the cherohala skyway i noticed all sorts of jerkiness when decelerating. filled up at the bp at the little town just past the restaurant on the river, and everything was smooth again.
