When is the real last year for the S2000

I am looking to have my first NEW car to be a Yellow 2001 S2000, just to let you know I am selling my 94 modified Z28 for this car. I went to the dealer and they said that 2001 is the last model year for this car is that correct? I have also read that they might continue the car in a production shop so they won't be hand built. If I buy the car now my problem is that I would not have all the money for the down payment so I can afford the monthly payments. So I was looking to pay the down payment in April 2002. When is the last chance to order the car. Because if I order the car in Dec 2001 it should take till April to make and ship it, right? Also when is this Market Value going to go down? I went to http://www.edmunds.com and they said it is into effect until March 18, 2001. So will I have to deal with getting a slightly used one?

Peter,
The simple answer is that nobody knows right now when production will end. There is all kinds of talk but no info from Honda themselves. Dealers like to tell us that it is a two year limited production car, so that they can get the maximum for it due to it's scarcity, but that is probably not the case.

Most dealers are out to pressure YOU the buyer into purchasing THEIR inventory. They are willing to feed you any hoopla possible to get you to buy NOW. I do not hold a high opinion of Honda dealers/salesman. There are a few dealers on this board that are good people but in general,
[sweeping stereotype]they are a bunch of greedy, low life, a$$holes[/sweeping stereotype]
Don't believe the hype.

There is no official statement so you have to assess market forces.
Honda can still sell the car to Honda franchises worldwide. These franchises can sell the vehicle to dealers, and dealers can still sell the car to end users at or above MRSP.
Another fact: You can always tell when a salesperson is lying. Their lips move.
My opinion is that while people are still concerned about the imminent end of production Honda will keep producing. It's when these questions stop that the end is nigh.
