Pittsburgh area here. Nov. 1 put the car semi-away. Will not drive it in inclement weather, but will take a short ride 2-4 times a month. The salt and brine in SW Penna. are terrible.

Since I live in Texas, I drive my S year round. One of the benefits of living in the south, in addition to year round golf! I will skip the occasional ice storm.

Whereabouts in Texas are you? I spent about 20 years of my life there, the majority of that time I lived in Austin. While I didn't have to worry about storing vehicles for extended periods of time back then, a different problem presented itself in my case. I tended to tuck myself away in the summer, hibernating primarily at home with AC going strong. I had friends who got along fine with the extreme heat but it wasn't a fit for me.

Thats why I love where I live, all year driving with the top down. We just got back from a three state 2400+ mile 12 day drive all with the top down. Coldest we saw was 24*F and the hottest was 89*F. I'm so glad my wife still pushes me to get her back on the road after all her cancer treatments, it tells me she is getting stronger.

We did use a three armed jacket we made so she could still have the top down when its cold. Oh, it worked like a champ to keep her warm even when its 24*F outside and going 90 mph with the top down. The third arm velcros to the right upper vent and the air blows the jacket up like a balloon, she had to turn the vent almost all the way off or she would get to hot.
We like to drive around Lake Tahoe when its clear and cold(coldest has been -7*F) with the top down and this jacket will let her do this again this coming winter. We take off from Sacrmento around 4am to make it to Truckee by 6am to have breakfast and watch the sunrise over at the lake.

Thumbs up

Really glad to hear she is doing better. Cracked me up with the 3 arm jacket. May have to get up early to catch the sun over the lake too.

Yes it is. I could not believe how much salt is put down in PA when I visit during the winter. I wouldn't drive around in that salt at all - bad weather or clear. It's like a layer on everything.

The goal is to store it by Veteran's Day which is the same target to put snow tires on the daily.:-)

Usually back on the road the first week of April.

Thank's Cos,
That jacket works damn good, kept her upper body warm as can be with very little air coming out of her vent. With her vent almost closed it made more air come out of my vent(s) which kept me warmer, thats a win/win for us.
Any time you're off and its going to be clear weather lets get a early morning drive up to the Lake. We can go anytime and as you know the weekdays are the less traveled days. Johnson pass is a good place to watch the Sun rise, its close to the summit on Hwy 50

I know that location well; Echo Lake is my jumping off spot for backpacking Desolation Wilderness/Lake Aloha/American Lake. Will keep that in mind and let you know.

Exactly!! Hardtop is on so I'll still drive one day every other week or so until the salt shows up. Then I'll hook up the battery tender.
