The Mid-Ohio school 3-day advanced high performance class is top notch. Instructors are names you know and Calvin Fish is the lead instructor.
Learn on an RSX-S and take your S on the track on the third day. Put most of the wear and tear on the school car.
Only about 3 hours from Detroit.
If you go let me know. I'll come and drive on day 3 (everyone who completes the course can come and drive on any open lapping day).

I'll second mid Ohio. My teenage son and I did the car control clinic this Fall and it was great. We are doing the performance class next Spring or Summer and I will drive my S on the third day (he will drive his, well his mom's WRX). The instructors are all for real, indy, formula 1 and CART drivers with lots of experience and teaching ability.

I third Mid Ohio. However, I have yet to attend high performance driving school. But been to track day. Instructor was great and my first track experience was more than what I bargained for in a good way.

Hey Jonesy,
Mid-Ohio is a world class facility, but if you would like to try something a little closer to home check out the various offerings throughout the season at Waterford Hills in Clarkston.
Many Detroit metro-area car clubs (Porsche, Shelby, Corvette, etc.) rent the track for their own Driving Schools (DE's), and offer instruction while placing you in a run group based on your experience. None actually require that you own a certain marque to participate, so I'm sure you and your S2000 would be welcome. You'll need a helmet (some clubs provide 'loaners') and have your car Tech-ed at the event.....and you might want to show them that your car is SCCA-approved to run in Solo 1 competiton with it's existing internal rollbar so that doesn't become an issue.
Hope that helps,
Brian

Personally, I would not recommend starting out at Waterford Hills. At least not with any local club stuff. That is not, in my opinion, a track for beginners. I have personally seen and heard of way too many serious wrecks to recommend it. If you have a professional or semi-professional instructor then it might be ok. But I would suggest Gingerman, located 6-miles east of South Haven as it is a MUCH safer local track to learn on and it is VERY technical so it will challenge your ability.
Here's a link to a run down on tracks in the area. If you PM the originator of the thread hecash (Harry Cash) he can give you the low down on what schools are coming up at Gingerman in '05 if you'd like to attend with other S2000 owners. Good luck.

Waterford is fun track. I took my SVO there before the Ford Centennial last year. One day in the rain and about half a day in the dry before I broke the steering bushing was a lot of fun.
Waterford was built for British roadsters and Porsche speedsters, by the shooting club that is next to the track. The problem with Waterford is there is little room for mistakes. The city has grown around the track and there are restricted hours for operations and noise. It would be a good choice for a third or fourth time at the track, but not really for beginners.
