If no one is in the car with me I take off my shoes and run with socks. The bumps on the pedals don't bother me. I always like the direct feel of the pedals.

I really want to get driving shoes for times I'm out just for the drive.

I usually keep my shoes on the floor back against the driver seat. The full-size mats allow me to do it without guilt.

I try to put my feet back against the driver seat sometimes too, but that bump on the floor limits the amount of space between the bump and the seat. So usually my foot end up on the bump. Tried without shoes couple of times, felt kinda weird. The clutch was kinda hurting my foot a little, maybe I'm a wuss

To the "NO SHOES" guys: Some decades ago, in Calgary, there was a law that said it was illegal to drive without shoes. I don't know the reason behind it and I'm not sure if this law is still in the books. I doubt that it was ever enforced.
