The seats in the AP1 are a little more form fitting IMO...and the seats are more (fat boy friendly) lol.
Actually, the seats are the same from 00-05...I've measured and you can check the part numbers for the foam seat formers (the leather does have a different part number but the foam that make form the seats are the same). They changed for 06-07 and it appears that they changed again for 08 (the CR looks to have the same style seat as 06-07, but the base 08 looks to have a higher headrest).

To the OP...in stock class there are pros and cons to both cars and locally either can be competitive. The AP2's 17" rims can fit larger tires than the AP1's 16 inchers. And there is relatively low cost light wheel available from the Tirerack. About the only easily available wheel option for the AP1 is another set of AP1 rims...but they are cheap now ($200-300).

AP2 does have a bit more torque, but the real advantage in a straight line is the tranny...the first 4 gears are the equivalent of 4.56 gears in an AP1. That can be a disadvantage on an autox course though. Most AP1 drivers can get into 2nd and leave it there until a slow manuever requires going back to 1st. Rarely an AP1 might get to 3rd on a fast course. AP2 drivers tend to be forced into more shifting between 2nd & 3rd. An AP1 2nd gear goes till 66mph while AP2 has to shift to 3rd at 57mph.

The best advice is to drive both as one may suit your driving style better than the other. And since the cars are getting on in years...the newest with the lowest miles is always a safer bet.

My brain hurts.

I can't believe so many people actually replied to a thread that goes nowhere and doesn't answer anything.

The OP is getting a car in a few "weeks" but doesn't know what year is "best."

Chances are, the nuanced differences would not be realized anyway.

He'll wind up buying whatever is local and whatever fits his budget... but not researching the car he'll over-rev the engine with the dipstick empty right before spinning out in the rain on bald, cold S-02s....

PM Ckit, I think he has an aftermarket TCS.
For as much of a broken record as I am about the utility of TC for daily driven S2000s... apparently there are people who still haven't heard... or read the FAQs in either the S2000 talk or Mods forum stickies.

Ah come on, Ckit, that doesn't happen to everyone who buys an S2000 and starts driving it without searching the Web and reading about the potential pitfalls.
Not everyone who is new to the S2000 is a numbskull.
(Or do ya think I'm giving people too much credit? )

[QUOTE=RED MX5,Dec 5 2007, 09:05 PM] I'd put condition and history ahead of MY considerations.

I guess that was kinda understood, in my weird mind

If there is not a certain attribute he is looking for... ie 9k redline, ease of additional FI, like the look of AP1 to AP2, i would recommend he buys the newest vehicle he can afford, even 'brand' new off the dealer lot if possible! However, if used, all receipts, history, appearance and mechanical condition of the car should be taken into account when comparing examples!
Ease of FI? Please explain, because i have been wondering about this.

I figured as much, but I also thought it was best to state it outright.
