Just curious as to what you all would do if you caught someone attempting to steal something from your car - whether it be your seats, hard top, stereo, or even the car itself.

Personally, i'd want to shoot them, but unfortunately shooting someone to prevent theft or the escape of stolen property is not legal where i'm from. So I would just chase them down, beat them and take my stuff back

To be honest my instinct would probably be the same as yours, but then as I think about it, I would get a good profile of the person and do nothing physical. Insurance will take care of the rest. Don't want a lawsuit.

In Texas I've heard you can shoot someone to protect your property which includes your car even off your property. Personally since I'm from Cali, I'd just take pictures of him and his car and give em to the police. If I can find out where he lives I'd post pictures to show how shady he is and give him a hard time getting hired or being at work.

I carry a smith & wesson almost all the time, but I would never draw it or shoot anyone unless someone was in significant danger. I would yell at the person, but the gun would stay holstered unless the person drew a weapon or tried to attack me. I highly doubt the they would stick around after being seen though.

Chase them down, get your butt kicked severely (or maybe even much worse), spend some time in the hosiptal (or maybe much worse), and still lose your stuff.

I have a very low tolerance for thieves....especially when they want to take my stuff.

They want to steal from me, they will have to go through me to get it!! The point of legality in beating someone down who's trying to steal your property shouldn't even have to be debated. It isn't theirs...and if they didn't try & steal it....no harm would have come to them.....case closed.

It's sad that we have to be concerned with whats leagal to do in a case like this.

Have you considered plastique? Do your set-up, stop at the local mart and get a sixer, go home and ready yourself for a very interesting 30 minutes on the 10pm local news.Aaah, life is really sweet.
