What would you buy to replace your S?
So let's assume you are considering getting something newer. You still love your S, but you think you might be ready for something else. Assume also you want a two seat convertible. No coupes or sedans. Let's also assume that you don't have an unlimited budget, or if you do, you don't want to blow a huge load of cash on a sports car. What else is there? Why would you want it?
I ask because after 9 years, I still love my S. I sometimes think of trading it in, but I can never identify anything I'd rather have (that has a reasonable price tag). Recently, my car hit 40,000 miles. Still low miles, but at nine years old, I'm starting to think that in six or seven more years, the car will not be as reliable as it is now. Yes, I know Hondas are reliable, but I'm talking about reaching the point where the maintenance becomes a lot more costly and a lot more frequent and maybe the body starts to show its age.
Just wondering what sports cars other S owners have bought or what you think about buying.

I don't know, I have 137k after 10 yrs and several owners are over 200k so I'd say they're holding up pretty well.
If I were to get something else assuming it were a new car, I don't know - maybe a WRX or STI, Lancer Rally Art or Evo, Genesis Coupe w/ the V6, BMW 1 Series. I'm not big on the styling of the Z4 and the Miata doesn't have enough power. That means pretty much all convertibles are out. If used, maybe an Elise. That's probably about it for me.

Maybe a used Elise? Outside of that as far as convertables go you are kinda SOL. You could look at getting a used Porsche of some kind but to me even a used 911 isn't reasonable. For Mercedes you have the SLK roadster which if you got an AMG could be fun but I have never been in one and they cost alot more to maintain. Or you could look at a used SL but thats the same story with upkeep. I think when I am ready for something new it will not be a 2 door 2 seater convertable. Likely an EVO or STI or BMW coupe.

Thanks guys. Keep them coming. I see mention of coupes and sedans, which I would not consider a replacement for the S. I already own a BMW 330i, so I have the sports sedan segment covered. My S is a second car and I want my second car to be significantly different from the DD to make it interesting.
I agree that the Mercedes offerings have some serious limitations in the area of repair and maintenance costs. I also agree that the Miata is just a bit too underpowered to be a replacement for an S2000. The Boxster appears to be a logical next step, but the price of a new Boxster is hard to justify.

I'm reading about lots of coupes here... Oh well. I guess there are not many convertibles to chose from.
The NSX never really appealed to me. The body looks like a Ferrari kit car to me. Maybe I should drive one and see if that changes my mind.
