Default What sort of aftermarket parts are available for our rear differential?

Today my rear differntial went kaboom. I will have it rebuilt and was wondering what sort of aftermarket parts are available for it. I don't want to go back to honda parts, because even though my car is stock, obviously the parts aren't strong enough. I want to keep the 4.10 gear ratio though for fuel economy, and I don't want to get an aftermarket casing, just want to get stronger internal differential parts.

So what sort of internal aftermarket parts are available to strengthen the differential and retain 4.10 gear ratio?

What parts broke?
You should do a search for "wesmaster". He has had the most experience with broken diffs. He has a recent thread update with what his current project is.

The ring gear is broke. Doesn't look like anyone makes aftermarket parts for it that keep the gear ratio at 4.10. I can put honda parts back in it of course but in another 47k miles it'll just break again

I don't think you'd go wrong with the 4.44 J's gears.

wow J's Gear Set is $950 while the stock set is $453 at hondaautomotiveparts.com

I wonder if I could find someone to machine a factory ring gear out of a stronger material then stock.

If you can find someone to make a "one off" gear for you for less than what it would cost to buy the complete J's, I think you'll be really fortunate. I would guess it's not just a simple matter of machining out a ring gear. There's other things involved (I'm guessing). Plus, we're talking tolerences in 1000ths of an inch.
Did you see the recent thread from the fellow who busted his diff. Even though he had a S/C, Honda still replaced it free. He said the total cost was $4000.00.
