Default What should I know about the S2000?

So over the last couple weeks I have begun to look into a S2000 as a replacement to my older Volvo C70 as repairs are getting to become very costly. Anyways, I have been looking for something that I can drive and is a lot of fun but when something does break it doesn't break the bank to fix. I read through the site and found some information on purchasing a S2000 but all the posts were from 2004 or older. I also looked through most of the FAQ and it answered most of my questions but I still have a few. Firstly I am looking at a 2000 since they seem to be a little cheaper, is there anything I should watch out for and how much is a reasonable price for one with a little under 100,000 miles? I found a few that were in the $10,000 range, should I stay away from these or could these just be good deals? Also I like the soft top but I love the S2000 with the hardtop, what can I expect to pay for one? Lastly does anyone have any suggestions for me as someone looking into buying their first S2000? Thanks so much for all your help and hopefully I will be posting pics of my newly acquired S2000 in the near future.

Welcome!

Do a quick search in the "Introductions" forum...there are some recent posts there giving advice on what to look for.

Do not expect a 100k mile car of any kind to be 100% trouble free...even Hondas. If you can find a low mileage one or two owner car, that would be a much better deal in the long run...and there are quite a few 7-10 year old s2ks that have come out of the woodwork with very very low miles bought for cheap.

The hardtop can be fitted to any s2k without removing the softtop and they run anywhere from $2500-3000 depending if you are buying new or used and color (some colors are discontinued like Spa Yellow).
