What part breaks in our rear ends?
So like the title says i was just wondering what part it is that give out in the S2000's rear end that makes it weak when it is excessivly abused or over powered?

pinion, ring gear, bearings...
but, this was just my first diff detonation.. haha.. so, I don't know what else breaks in our diffs just yet... I try to NOT look into that subject too much... haha, knock on wood... blwh.

Oh! I thought this was going to be one of those awkward questions about personal hygiene.
Usually it's the blood vessels which causes a hemorroid.

For the most part the S2000 rear fails because of week cast iron bearing caps. Even if the cap dose not brake it will stretch and distort causing improper gear aliment, this causes gear or LSD failure next.
Driver error is also a leading cause of the failures. Letting the car wheels to hop or bounce trying to get traction or not letting the wheels spin some from a dig puts a tremendous amount of stress on the internals of the rear.
These are grade #8 factory bearing cap screws removed from a rear with gear failure.
The bearing caps were not broke but, you can see from the distorted screws how they had stretched.
The gears are not necessarily week nor is the LSD it is simply a matter of keeping things in there place that would help to prevent a good bit of the failures from accruing.
