Default What are the negatives of Hondata IMG in cold

There's a chance I'll be moving out to Boston next year with the S, so I'm not too inclined about installing my Hondata IMG because of the potential ice build up in the throttle body during the cold winters.

How prevalent does this happen, for those of you with the IMG in cold weather/winters? What potential harm can this do to the engine?

I'm really tempted to free up some horsepower with the IMG sitting in my room right now, but I don't really want to risk it.

Thanks guys!

For those of you who don't know what the IMG does, it pretty much blocks the coolant flow to the throttle body so there is no heat soak during hard driving/traffic idling, which equates to more freed-up horsepower.

However because there is no coolant flow ot the TB, there is a potential risk for ice buildup in cold, freezing weathers since the coolant also acts as an anti-freeze agent.

You can do the same thing by pluging the coolant hose to the TB.

So that's all that needs to be done to stop the coolant flow?

So I just wasted $50 on this IMG?

The IMG does more than plug the coolant to the TB. The amount of coolant actually flowing through the TB is small, but evidently enough to prevent "carb ice". If you want to restore coolant flow to the TB while still using the IMG, use your original metal gasket as a template to drill out the missing passage in the IMG. In summer, you can then plug the hose to the TB to get the "full" effect (however small that may be).

The IMG material does seem to do an excellent job of insulating the intake from the head.

Yes, I'm afraid so. Maybe you can sell it before people find out?
