Default what is the "MY" all about?

why does everyone always say MY02? or MY01 I don't get it? Would someone fill me in? Thanks.

yeah this threw me when I first started posting here too, it's the only car forum I know of where people use MY all the time. What is the point of it though? I mean, if somebody just says "I have an '03" without the MY it's not like I don't know what they're talking about. In fact I think the MY would cause more confusion if anything.
