What maintenance must be done by 20,000 miles
Hi. My 2006 S will hit 20,000 miles soon. I change the oil regularly and am keeping an eye on the rear tires,
I find the maintenance chart in the 2006 owner's manual confusing and hard to follow. Simply put, what maintenance needs, or needed to be done at 20,000 miles?

I just hit 20k on my 06 as well. All I opted to have done was an oil change and diff fluid change. You should be looking at the 30k / 2 year maintenance list. It's pretty much just spot checking stuff, oil change, diff fluid change, air filter change, cabin filter change.

What I would do at 20k:
Thorough visual inspection of the entire car -- engine, drivetrain, suspension, steering, brakes, fluid levels, etc.
Change differential and transmission fluid.
Replace mircon air filter.
Valve adjustment.
Swap tires from side to side if they're wearing unevenly.

Nothing 'really' needs to be done except an inspection.. Myself a long with many others users change diff and tranny fluid every 15-25k, and 20k is a good time for a valve adjustment. Most cars are slightly out of spec on a few valves by this time.

Just keeps the engine running smoothly and might reduce a little noise. I wouldn't expect anyone's car to be so out of wack by 20k that you would really notice a difference though. Honda doesn't recommend it until around 100k I believe.. but the fact remains that the valves do get out of spec by 20k. I had several valves .001-.002" out of spec by 25k.
If you can do the work yourself, I would certainly recommend doing it at 20k.. it should take maybe two hours your first time through. If you have to pay to have it done.. well, that's up to you. Probably get charged for like 2.5 hours labor.

How possible is it that a valve adjustment performed by a Honda tech be done poorly?
In other words, is there a very high risk of a screw up so that your engine performs worse after the job is done?
