I don't know exactly what kind of oil/filter you'd need from Amsoil, but my stepdad is a dealer for them. I stand by that company 100 percent. I did an oil change last week on my G35 after over 25,000 miles and I had almost 4 quarts of oil left when I drained it.

Is Mobil 1 still good to use? Been using it for years and my wife's mini recommends it, should I consider something else for the sk2? I'm never going to track the car.

I prefer Amsoil and actually just did an oil change yesterday. Pulled about all 5.5 quarts of Mobil 1 that I put in roughly 4000 miles ago. (I checked the dip stick before my oil change in the garage and it still read full) The engine was a bit noisy for the last week or so, but when I poured the Amsoil in, it was back to quiet. Not going back to Mobil 1 ever again. IMHO, Amsoil is awesome. Also used a NAPA filter. Mobil 1 is ok I suppose for "other" cars, but my s is only going to get Amsoil. Redline was great when I used it in my MINI Cooper S, but I haven't felt the need to use it in the s2k since Amsoil works so well.

but aren't these are under extreme conditions, conditions which most of us never drive in anyways, even if Vtec'ing every day to work? if you change your oil every 3,000 miles, i do not see the "lasting longer" benefit of any benefit at all.
would rather change every 5-8k miles

benefit discovered.

MY06+ have a minder system that I plan to follow. At 15% oil life, it indicates what maintenance is necessary. It determines when particular items (Diff fluid, trans fluid, etc.) should be changed *independently* from the regular maintenance items (A, B) depending on how you drive your car.

I will definitely not be changing oil every three months or 3000 miles. I am too lazy and cheap to make extra trips and expenditures for supposedly unnecessary maintenance...

I just want to make sure that the engine is well lubricated during the regular service intervals, which are recommended by Honda, and custom tailored according to my driving, and the climate.

Use the ATM 10W-30. What's on their site is what is available. You won't find "unlisted" Amsoil products locally.

Of course if you believe that everything you see on the screen or read in an ad is the absolute gospel truth then go ahead and pay the price if you sleep at night better.
So you're saying that we should be skeptical of your comment as well then...

I had been using Mobil 1 10W30 from 70k(when i bought it) to 90k. After 4k miles, there was more "noise" and that burnt oil smell, damn that sh*t is nasty. I drive mainly highway miles. I decided on Valvoline synthetic 10W30 this go around. I'll see if anything changes. So far, very smooth engine feel on the highway.
