What is it with Honda steering?

At a recent DE event at TWS I switched cars from my S2k to a buddies M-Coupe. His first reaction not being in the car more then 30 seconds was the lack of steering input. Interesting observations one in which I have never considered. 
In driving his M-Coupe other then the low end torque which was awesome the steering input felt the same.

clark,
my car does the the total opposite of what you describe about on-center deadness.
if i move my wheel even a hair off-center, the car goes in that direction.
we must be running different pressures in the front.

you're right. i forgot to mention that i'm NOT running stock alignnment specs - mine's set-up more aggressively.
having said that, i get all the feedback that my brain can handle. i love my steering

I don't know what you folks mean by numb -- at highway speeds my car leaps across lanes with moderate inputs. I let a friend (who owns a 3/4ton turbodiesel) drive and he nearly killed us changing lanes!
Perhaps I'm just used to Honda steering systems, but it's perfect to me. At any speed from parking lots to highways, the car does exactly what I want without any extra thought. Even valets moving my car 20 feet comment on how great it handles.

This thread is not about the performance of the steering. It is about the feedback that the steering wheel provides about what the tires and the chassis are doing when you drive the car. There does not seem to be a direct connection between the tires and the "vibrations" you feel in the steering wheel. No one doubts the performance and accuracy of the Honda steering set-up because it is supreme--the issue is with the lack of feel. It's like sitting on a saddle in which you cannot feel what the horse under you is doing.
I raise this issue long ago, but got slammed for doing so. Anyway, back then, I asked if anyone noticed that the bottom half of the steering wheel provides more feedback than the top of the wheel. This lead me to believe that the issue was one of excess padding on the wheel that dampens road feel and not so much the steering mechanism.
