What do you think of KBB pricing?
I'm looking at an '04 with hardtop and 6300 miles. The seller is asking $29K but KBB says only $26K for private party in good condition. I think KBB also says excellent condition is reserved for dealers who prep the heck out of used cars on their lot. So, private party deals are usually in the good condition category.

KBB is crap. It's an OK place to start. Used car prices are falling faster than KBB can keep up. That guy is high on his price.
You should be able to get an '05 with a brand new warranty, financing, < 20mi on it, and the HT as part of the deal for ~ $32,500. + TTL.

kbb is a giudeline. the market effects it, time of the year etc. but use it as a guideline, you can get a new S for 30k, so ...... 26-28 sounds reasonable. Dealers as a general rule use "fair trade in value" +- 1200 depending on tires and condition. There is no "excellent" car in a dealers eyes, you would have to buy the car and leave it in the garage. just a FYI.

When I traded in my 03 S2000 for a Camry, I got KBB Excellent for my S. I flat out told the dealer that there will be no deal unless I got Excellent or better. But I still owed money on the S and ended up losing couple thousand.

KBB is been pretty far off when I used it as a tool. Try Completed Auctions in EBay and you'll see what people are really paying for cars. I'd knock another $1,500 off of what KBB tells you.
There's a wholesale KBB that's more inline with current prices. I don't have a copy, but autodealer should have one. No one is going to pay a Private Party price on an used car these days.

Dont forget that dealers dont use KBB unless they benefit from it. Their black books are what dictate most of their pricing. Get a friend who works at a dealership and get the blackbook pricing of the cars you are looking to buy/sell.
