Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum. I have researched the archives heres on the CompTech supercharger and am thinking of buying one. I have corresponded with Mike at CT and he has been very helpful.

My issue is when I read threads like the one started by Rocketman, asking if there is anyone still having problems, I get the feeling that the SC doesn't have all the bugs worked out yet. If I spend that much money on this equipment, I want something that bolts on and performs without any problems. I am reading all these posts about different valves and versions and assorted tweaks to the setup to correct problems.

So what is the real deal on this equipment? Am I interpreting these posts correctly? I'm not trying to be critical of CT or their SC. I just want to make an informed buying decision.

Thanks,
Dave

As with any new product only testing in the real world finds all the bugs. Apparently, in some climates there was a problem where the ECU would retard ignition or something and the engine would hesitate. Various valves and MAP sensor changes resulted in a fix.

Rather than looking at this as a shortcoming I think it speaks highly of CompTech's diligence and after sales support.

I, for one, would jump at the chance to get an SC. just got to remember where I left that spare $5K

Posted this earlier, but here goes again.

S2000 ECU does not like boost ==> SC produces boost ==> boost must be relieved so ECU doesn't freak.

The method(s) of relieving boost pressure don't work under all environmental conditions (temp, humidity, etc.). Depending on where one lives and what the conditions are, this results in poor throttle response, hesitation at certain rpms during WOT, and other undesireable things.

The only method that seems foolproof so far is the electronic one (do a search on "electronic gurus" for a thread with the details), but this is definitely
non-trivial and comptech has not come up with an electronic solution that is easily retrofittable or inexpensive.

Keep in mind that only a small subset of SC owners suffer from this problem (at least that I know). One of the first SC owners, Jim Leiber, has never had any problems to my knowledge.

THIS BEING SAID, LET ME SAY THE FOLLOWING: thoughout this, comptech has been top-notch in terms of customer response and their dedication to finding a solution. Right now, it is a small group of us experiencing these problems, but comptech is working hard to fix them. And I don't doubt for a minute that they will continue to work towards a solution and they will do whatever it takes to fix the problem. ALSO, this is not a problem with the base design or quality of the hardware, but what I would call an "interface" issue.

Can someone tell me exactly which environmental conditions cause problems? Is it low humidity, high humidity, low temperature, high temperature, etc? Where do people live who are having problems?

I live in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Lotsa heat and humidity. Any guesses as to how this might affect the SC performance in my S2K?

I seem to be having the most problems. I live in Maryland in the washington DC metro area. Problem is worst in warmer, more humid temps (like here as it gets warmer). Most of the people in California are not having these sorts or problems.

Rocketman, I live in the Dallas, Tx area where it's really humid (Summer time) and since summer is upon us, it hits on average 100 degrees. Is this worst then where you're at? I'm really thinking about getting one, however just like any other person reading all these problems, I would like to have it bolted on, and work fine.

If you ordered now, the problem will history by the time you get it and install it.

Actually I (Jim Lieber) did have the same hesitation problems as the others. Mine was fixed with version 3.10 of the check valve. 5000 supercharged miles without significant probs except as above.

With the first software change my info got lost so I reregistered under a new name: SCS2k. Get it?
