Out of curiosity, to those doubters, why would reputable mags like Road&Track, Edmunds.com, etc. perpetuate a myth? Does it make any sense for them to do that? How does it benefit them to say that the seats are Recaro when it's not? And how did they come up with Recaro? Why not Sparco or Bride? Can you guys also explain why other cars they manufacture seats for, such as the VW GLi not mentioned in that list you submitted as evidence? Kinda suspect imo..

Actually, VW did offer the Jetta GLi in 04-current that didn't use the same seats as in the standard GLi. It has BBS RC wheels and Recaro sport seats with the logo Recaro stitched across just below the GLi logo. Just like the limited anniversary edition of the GTi that they only sold for a short time period a couple years back which was also outfitted with Recaro seats and the same wheels.
In my business, it's my job to know the subtle details of each model car from year to year, mfg to mfg.
This is why it bugs when a few people start dismissing something as a myth even as reputable sources such as the mfg rep and car mags make factual statements.
In the end, I agree.. it's unimportant and a waste of bandwidth at the end of the day.. but well.. I guess it passes time by quickly..

I was referring to the MK V, the MK IV gti's didn't even get recaro's seats until the 337 and 20th anniversary gtis (NA market). Besides, don't those seats you pictured above look the same as the 337 seats in the MK IV GTi ?

Haha, I was just saying that those seats weren't installed in ALL models of the Golf/Jetta like you had said previously.. I knew that the 337 and the current GLi shared the same seats..
