I created this CAI for my car:

You too can have one. Here's how it works. Use the links below to find the parts, and buy them. Put everything together, then send me $300, just because .

The Duct

$17.99

The Hose

$42.95

Cutting the coastal grill was a pain in the butt, that thing is very strong, even though it's flimsy. I removed the top piece on the stock pastic "grill" to make room for the duct. I cut off the parts of the top piece that the coastal grill brackets screw into and put them back on the grill, as they are need for proper mounting of the coastal grill. I ended up cutting off some of the duct's back pipe, as it was deep enough to shove the hose into the metal line that is running back there. The lip of the duct is inbetween the stock grill and the coastal grill, with "mounting tape" on the bottom lip keeping it stuck to the stock grill. I initially mounted the duct on the outside of the coastal grill, but it looked cheesy. With the duct inbetween the two grills it isn't going anywhere, it's held in nice and tight.

The hose runs just like on the RM Racing CAI, which I used to have on the car. The hose runs to the left of the radiator, and feeds into the SC air box. I left a few inches of gap incase some water were to get into the hose, somehow. This is the hardest part of the install. The hose has to be squeezed into an oval to pass by the radiator, and once it's inbetween it's very hard to pull it through. It can be done, but it's very frustrating. It can easily take you 20+ minutes just to get the hose routed from the box to the front of the grill.

No, I cannot feel any gains. I still stand by my belief that a butt-dyno cannot feel a 5% gain...if it does, it needs to be recalibrated. I simply did this because I know that it is good for the car.

Richard,
Could you send Wes the money I sent you for the CAI? I think that I'm going to try his instead.

I was with Wes and the other Houstooks last night and his mod looks pretty functional. It's not a bad setup.

Hmm.. my only "concern" is that the tubing is "rippled".. I wonder how that effects a smooth air-flow... neat idea-- and certain cheap enough.

Wes, any concerns of blocking off too much of the radiator, Barry style?

Well, I had a NACA duct behind the grill for quite some time, so this isn't that much different.

Don't you want brake ducts in the future?
