Default Went for a hoon .... in the wet :-)

I went for a nice 'hoon' tonight. It's drizzling and wet outsude, also it's reasonably cold (about 15degrees Celcius). I found some nice wide and empty twisties and let it loose. I must say that either my tyres have got more grip now (7,500km) or I'm driving the S2000 better, but the car was very 'glued' to the road. I could take 90degree 1st-gear bends on full throttle and not get the back stepping out. Mind you, I was very smooth with the throttle as well as with the wheel. I took it to 9k revs a few time in 1st in situations like this and the back did not slip. As long as you sqeeze the power on smoothly and don't apply too much lock, the back stays put (that is especially the case in 2nd gear).

Mind you, holding a slighlty tigher line and geing a touch more agressive with the throttle gets the back sliding even in 2nd gear (even at about 5k revs).

Important thing is to be smooth with both wheel and power. If you do that then it's quiete fun kicking the back out and cathing it with a prompt flick of the wrist. I found myself often turning in for early apex and getting on power before the apex just to get the car sliding. Nice and controllable if you're on your toes ... also good fun.

Another thing, be very carefull doing 'quick' shifts at high revs as I could lose traction in the 2nd - 3rd gear shift. Could eazily catch you out if you do it and are not going perfeclty straight.

Anyway, I was very impressed with the wet weather grip of the S2000 tonight .... maybe I started respecting the actual power of the S2000 a bit more and that made me be a bit smoother in the wet - either way, I could not complain about lack of grip tonight.

ps. I have stock standard S2000 with stock standard wheels/tyres.

"hoon" isn't an acronym (or for that matter an anachronism ). It's Australian slang for a spirited, usually directionless, occasionally irresponsible drive.

Think of it as what you Americans would call "cruising" except it's done with a lot more vigour.

That's enough euphemisms for one lesson of "Australian Colloquialisms 101"

Thanks. I'll add it to my list of trivia that someday I could use to win on Jeopardy.

I spend a lot of time hooning in my stook.

Yeah, there is sometimes a different way to drive ... sometimes I do have a 'direction' that I'm heading :-)

"Hoon"...I like that! Maybe I'll have to replace my old phrase "I'm going out for a romp" to "I'm going to take the Stook out for a hoon!" (and no one will know what the hell I'm talkin' about).

LOL, I just finished watching Two Hands. If you want to experience some 'strain slang that's the movie for it.
