Warranty Repair? Oil leaking into cylinder ring
Hi all,
I need some advice. Here is a little background information. I have a MY03 with 38000 (est) miles on it. Problem of oil consumption happened about 8 months ago. I started to keep an eye on it and while doing so, I started to see visual evidence of oil burning problem. I got oil burnoff smoke from the exhaust (white/grey/blue-ish) and I took the car about 6 months ago to a local Honda dealer. They didn't/couldn't find a problem. This was at 35000 miles. It's been 6 months and the problem is still here. I lose oil (1qt per every 750-1000 miles). There are no external leaks visible.
Last week, I took my S to a another dealer and had them run a oil consumption test and they confirmed that the oil was leaking into the engine chamber. It was an educated guess because they didn't disassemble the engine due to the cost. They estimated $3000-4000 for the job. Their suggestion was to contact American Honda and apply for a warranty repair on the engine. Is this feasible? What do I need to tell AH?
I've never had this type of car problem with any of my past cars. Just an FYI, I have no performance mods on the car, I don't abuse my car, and I changed out my OEM S02 tires at 34000 miles so obviously I don't drive my car too rough. It is my daily driver and when I first got the car, my job was far away and I avg. 2000 miles a month. Now my job is 10 minutes away. That's why I have 38000 miles on my car. But it's mostly highway miles.
Anyway, I'm not sure I'm going to do here. Thanks for reading.
Mike

Were these problems you had prior to the 36K mile mark documented by the dealer? If so, you shouldn't have any issues getting it warrantied. If not, then it will be harder but not impossible. Honda may decide on a goodwill repair.
