Interesting.

One comment: I can't help but notice you talked about "having to turn the wheel with two hands".

A good driver never navigates a turn with only one hand on the wheel. Your control of the car is significantly reduced without both hands firmly on the wheel and hitting a bump in the road while cornering without good wheel control....hello ditch!

It bugs me when I ride in anyone's car and they are driving with one hand on the wheel on a curvy backroad or in traffic...no wonder there are so many accidents. You cannot react or evade an accident well at all with one hand.
Thats what knees are for. Coffee in one hand and I-phone in the other.

Pretty nerdy idea, I can't imagine trying to explain why I installed that switch to a 1st date.

On the other hand, it would give me the best of both worlds...

There is one mod you could do that is completely free of charge. The technique mod.
I read somewhere that your sensitivity is greater if you pull at the wheel rather than push it. I think this is true.
Say you're turning left, pull with your left hand more, rather than pushing with your right, you can feel a lot more! Not saying you should use one hand! just more effort on the one nearest to where you are turning.

Also, Cant you affect how light the steering is with castor adjustment? If so what side effects would that have?

I understood that just as "It took so much effort to turn the wheel that I couldn't have turned it with one hand even if I wanted to"
Top gear is correct. I couldn't turn the wheel without the effort required by two hands.

I agree with your "two hands on the wheel at all times" rule. Driving is dangerous. People don't realizes the consequences that can occur when they don't take it seriously.

Unless you're Han from FF5 and can pass, flash high beams, make out with hot gf, and recite inane lines of dialogue simultaneously. No need for rules. Mad skillz yo! (see video below for example)

A friend of mine trained with a gymkhana coach for a year. He recommended fingertip pressure on the wheel to increase sensitivity. You're right. A death grip, combined with pushing rather than pulling definitely reduces steering feel.

I try to avoid the death grip, but the energy is usually transferred to my but which clenches solid, If I do it enough I start to get some gluteus maximus cramp... relaxing at the wheel is something that comes with confidence, so its a bit of a chicken/egg scenario.

this is true - if you do it correctly you always pull never push.

OP if you disconnect the speedometer wire that goes to the EPS unit so it only sees the RPM and not MPH then it will work at half of normal, the EPS light will still be on but it thinks the car is sitting still so it only works a little. The difference is like when you make a turn you can do it with one hand but not as easy and the wheel does not return to center like it would with EPS working.
