I have the Invidia test pipe and Invidia blue tipped exhaust. My setup is way loud but the smell burnt off in the first 100 miles of driving. It was pretty putrid at first but then it got normal.

a friend of mine also told me i could instead of getting an exhaust just getting mufflers and leaving the stock piping, how does that sound?
It will make some noise, going that route, but sort of defeats the purpose of changing the exhaust.

there is an easy solution to what you want. First a few questions, what car do you have? You are listed as an enthusiast. If you recently purchased an S2000, congratulations! Now register your VIN with the forum and be come an 'owner'.
So is it an AP1 or AP2?
If you have an AP2 and want more growl I suggest you simply have the resonator cut out of your stock exhaust first. It will cost you about $30 and adds a nice sound with out adding a loud droning at Hwy speeds.
It was the first thing I had done on my AP2 and I love it.

Imo, anything you do to the exhaust will sound loud all the time (including drone) while anything you do to the intake will only sound loud on throttle - generally). Cutting out the resonator will change things a bit, but imo installing a test pipe is not worth the hassle.
I like intake mods over exhausts because I like haing a quiet car with a bark instead of a loud car that is moaning all the time, but that's just me...

What if you decide you want to go back to the stock mufflers?
It will make some noise, going that route, but sort of defeats the purpose of changing the exhaust.
