vtec'ing before 600 miles
will it happen, will it climb to redline w/o switching cams, or will there be a rev limiter? does the response to crossing the 6krpm line change with increasing miles? like, it starts to switch cams at 300 miles or something, but at 150 no cam switch and at 50 there's a rev limiter?

Thats my whole thing with the break in procedure. If it's so important, they should enforce it in the ECU. They already to that when the engine's cold certainly wouldnt take much to do it for the break in period.
I almost think that the fact that they dont enforce it where they could would be a good argument for any denyed warranty work due to them saying you didnt follow break-in.

VTEC won't necessarily engage JUST because you pass the engagement point... there are numerous things that are taken into account before the computer will allow VTEC to engage, i.e. - throttle position, engine temperature, oil pressure, just to name a few...

I Ran my Prelude to redline during my test drve (24 miles). Ran into a Eclipse who "made" me race him to 120 at 350 miles. Have 50,000 miles on it right now with no problems at all. In fact it's one of the stronger 5th gen preludes I've ever driven. Just think, if you don't vtec before 600 miles, thats 600 miles of carbon buildup!
