VTEC Virgin No More!

I VTEC'ed mine the very first day. I reved it to 7k a couple of times and 8k once. It was done in 1st and 2nd gears. If you think about it, the amount of time spent at 7k in 1st or 2nd gear before shifting is very, very brief. I even hit 100 mph in 6th at low rpm. I looked in my mirror, nobody was behind me, so I thresheld braked from 100 mph. We could hear the tires scrubbing under braking. I was hooked, and the salesman was cool about it.

The first time I hit VTEC was in 3rd gear... didn't feel much , even though I could hear a slight difference in the pitch of the engine sound.
Then I tried hitting VTEC in 2nd gear... that's the stuff!!! hehehe Maybe I was too gentle on the throttle the first time, even though I did rev it past 6K. Guess I should go WOT more often.

Yeah, on the 04 at least, you definitely have to give it some hefty gas to feel the VTEC kick. I finally got my dad to take the S out for a drive yesterday, and tried to get him to VTEC. He took it up around 7000 rpms, but we never really felt the kick, because he was easing it up with the gas.
I went for a drive last night, to pick up some pizza. It's all back roads through corn fields to get there. Punched it coming around a corner in 2nd, and when the VTEC engaged, I definitely felt it. I still haven't felt the floor when giving it the gas yet, so I know I still have some room to grow.
This is the first "real" sports car I have had (had a couple firebirds in my younger years) , and I am loving it. This thing just feels like it always wants to go, even when just cruising through town in 3rd, you can feel that it wants to be unleashed. Can't wait til Spring, when I can take the top down and hit the country roads.

Ditto. A few times I've revved up to 6k and past, slowly, and not felt much of a kick.
Other times I had the throttle all the way down and at 6k the VTEC transition was about as abrupt as any other car I've been in.
It's cold here too and a week ago when shifting from 1st to 2nd at redline, the rear end squirmed, chirped, I felt some rumbling back there and a little bit of lateral movement. It lasted only a second or so but was kind of scary. I wasn't expecting the car to have traction issues anytime after launch. Maybe it's the tires + cold.
Andy, nice to meet a fellow '04 Suzuka!

I hardly, if ever, feel the need to venture past the 5000rpm mark.

Give it a try, just once, you won't regret it. Come on man, you know you want it...
Just kidding, yo each his own.
