Ok, in the real world that's not how it works. You don't have a limited amount of VTEC uses. It's not NOS, it won't run out (as long as you have enough oil and gas). You can't "tease it". You're either in VTEC or out of it. It's not as if you "used" up a VTEC life .

Stop playing Mario . It's 2006.
Of course...that's obvious. The situation I'm describing is the fact of hitting VTEC and then shifting out of it immediately. In which case you are not WOT reving it all the way as you would if you had intentionally planned to VTEC the car as would on a spirited drive or launch. I'm sure this happens to us, looking for discussions on how others feel about doing this.

Not that I play Mario, but in response to it being 2006, Mario is still alive Nintendo DS and Wii.

I feel I wasted the VTEC

When I'm in VTEC mode, ideally I don't want to "waste it" if you will...I want to rev it up and at least be in vtec for a longer duration and not shift out and go back to "ordinary" mode so soon because I feel engaging VTEC and not staying in it is like "teasing" the engine.
Holy **** man.

You're too late. Been done. The "Houstooks" used to drag race in reverse.

The only teasing I do is to new friends who've never ridden in the car before. I'll drive like a grandma for at least 5 minutes (if not to warm the engine as well). Then I'll push it harder, still short-shifting. You know, just enough for them to start thinking the car is kinda slow. Then when least expected I'll drop to 2nd from a 40-45 mph cruise (if there's a bridge to go under, even better). I've gotten a few "Oh S#@t!"s from that one. Good times.

BTW, open element intakes are highly recommended for such purposes.

Sounds like you're not teasing VTEC, you're teasing yourself with VTEC.

Once you're in it you can't pull out until you're finished, if you hit it and pull out a second later it sounds like you have some sort of personal problem that needs to be addressed in another forum...

Or just learn to accept a quickie from VTEC every once in a while.

I find the S2000 vtec to be kind of anti-climatic. My Civic absolutely howls when I hit vtec. In the S, I barely notice it. Most of the civic noise comes from the shortram. I've had instructors on track ask me if 5600 RPM's where my turbo boost kicks in.

It's funny how many knowledgeable people don't know about variable valve timing, VTEC and VVTI. Lots of car's have it these days.

Kind of like blue balls. Don't tease it or yourself; GO ALL THE WAY WITH IT!
