Default VTEC KICKING IN

I just wanted to get some feedback on how their car feels when the VTEC kicks in. I notice that if I really get on it the VTEC is more noticable as to if I gradually take it past 6500 I don't feel that burst of power. Is this normal. I have an 05.

interesting... now that I think about it, I dont think I have ever entered VTEC at anything less than WOT. Or maybe I have and just don't remember.

When I take it past 6500, I'm acelerating hard. VTEC kicks in strongly enough to make my head snap back. Usually if I'm just tooling along, I'm between 3000 and 4500. I've never gradually brought it up to 6500.

I have "gradually" VTEC'd a couple of times (not WOT), and it is pretty linear in power delivery. You will not get the "punch" that you get with a turbo. I WOT, it kicks you in the butt a bit, but no too bad. Try cruising at 5k, go WOT to around 6k, back off, then WOT through VTEC. You WILL feel the difference in the pull. Also, watch the Tach. It accelerates through 6500-8000 RPM MUCH faster than say 4000-5500RPM.

I have transitioned through VTEC "moderately". I can hear the cams "come on" and I can feel a moderate surge in power delivery.
Like anything in life, if you do something "gradually", the results will also be "gradual". This should come as no surprise.

I never VTEC with the top down. I did it once and I flew right out of the car and landed on the pavement behind my S.

to my knowledge, vtec has a number of sensors to determine whether or not to engage at what we'd call the "normal" WOT hi cam. one of these includes the TPS (throttle position sensor)
