VTEC before 600 miles..
Hey guys...stupid question here...well actually there are no stupid questions, just ignorant questioners...anyway..i was just wondering what would happen if you VTEC before the 600 mile break in period? i haven't and don't plan on doing it...besides my car is garaged for the next few weeks tied up in nj insurance BS...

I honestly don't think it would hurt anything if you did it a FEW times by mistake. Honda says 600 miles, and I'm sure they have tested it right out of the box and hit vtec. They just don't want you abusing a new engine right away. Hitting it a few times before 600 miles isn't something to have nightmares about. Now, if you hit it all the time, then yes. If it was highly abused before 600 miles, any major porblems would show up right away and not later.

Very possibly nothing would happen. Possibly the oil consumption would be higher than average, possibly not. This car really hasn't been around long enough to really gauge the sensitivity of this engine to early abuse, so I'd suspect that noone really knows (though there's no lack of opinions on this board). I'd just be a bit paranoid and follow the user's manual (as you've indicated you plan to do). What's a few days of easy driving in the grand scheme of things? I considered it an opportunity to just get used to the car before I pushed her hard.
Vague enough for you?

I'm sure my car was VTECed many times before the break-in was completed.
I bought it with 800 miles on it. I will not reveal the price, but I got raped.
Now I have about 23000 and it runs exceptionally well, but I treat it the same.
