Haha, the reason why I sighed is because I couldn't see on my left side due to a Jeep blocking my view. So I had to sit there and wait for them to make a left. I believe my mirror is around 180mm, a tad less than 8 inches.
I see you noticed my Maltese.

Cool vid, and great review!
Curious to know what the 2 holes on the "Base Plate" are for? I thought this plate simply slid under the wind deflector and nothing needed to be screwed down?

I would not trust my camera on one of these is it were not bolted down somehow.

I mounted a Manfroto head to the extra panavice base, replaced the stock bolts / acorn nuts with longer ones, and covered the entire bottom with sticky back felt. The wing nut keeps things quiet when no camera is mounted.
Maybe overkill but no noise, no scratching the secret compartment cover, and a solid mount that can hold a heavy camera if required. My old camera was a Canon GL-2. Now I have a tiny Sony.
The panavice mount base is plastic and has limitations as does the secret compartment cover itself. All in all, you should be able to eliminate most movement / noises.
I have also tried mounting a quick release plate directly to the panavice base. It helps in minimising the rear view mirror, but is not adjustable. It needs more tweaking as the angle is a little too low.
