i was at the line and all of a sudden my friend decided to have a quick race. for the first time i decided to attemp a launch. the light turned green it happened so fast i dont remember what i did. i reved pretty high and popped the clutch as i thought i was suppossed to. the car started to move a bit but was not responding at all as in forward thrust. i dont think the tires were spinning out b/c im sure i wouldve heard it or felt it! i was stuck at the line. finally i settled down and put it in second and finally took off. the car had that awful burnt smell and i dont know if i ruined some parts! i am a good driver but something went wrong. will i need to get my car checked out. it runs fine now but the smell has lasted about an hour or two
any help please thanks

I believe that's the clutch burning. I did it once when I tried to launch. Stunk horribly. You can ruin your clutch if you burn it too bad.

I have experienced what you are describing. I am pretty sure what you noticed was a slipping clutch. As i have learnt from this board, the correct way to launch the stook is to side-step the clutch and not to let it gently slip and engage (as is usually the case with other VTEC cars). As I used to drive a Civic Si before my stook, it was difficult for me to get rid of this habit. Apparently the S2K is a much more difficult car to launch. I would guess that everything with your car is OK - just be careful not to hold a slipping clutch.

It was definitely your clutch slipping (due to the smell). It's probably ok iof thats the only time you did it.....how many miles on your car?

5000 miles on the car. i guess its ok but it was the first experience like that in a manual so i got nervous. whenever someone first starts driving a manual they experience many firsts.
