it has to be almost fully submerge and at near WOT fo rit to suck water up. Unless your area floods often or you plan on driving through rivers hydrolock aint no thang. It is just a paranoid thing. its common sense not to WOT threw a puddle any ways so why would you do it with a CAI ?
say you have 2 straws put on into a cup of water and one out side and suck lightly, you wont get water. NOw if you suck HARd like WOT then you might get some water. THen of course if you put both in the water then you will get water

you guys are right but read xviper's post. The problem is when you are parked, the AEM style filters, ESPECIALLY the v2, are very susceptible to getting filled up with water.

I have a vented hood and love it. After some spirited driving, I come home, park the car and put my hand over the vent. Boy, is that HOT. The thought of all that heat just staying in the engine bay would keep me awake at night.
Caveat: I don't take my car out in the rain, so water infiltration isn't really a concern for me.

yeah, it get HOT under there. I just recently put a turbo in and started driving it under very light load (not tuned yet) and it was even hotter. I just have to think that the vent helps a lot of that heat disperse, otherwise it's stays in there longer.

I have a TS hood and def would recommend the vented hoods. Like BigP says, the heat that comes out of the vents is crazy. When you're sitting at a light you can see the heat escaping.
I have a stock intake and have noticed less lag cause of heat soak. I wouldn't worry about the water issue.

im starting to think that its almost impossible to get rid of all heat soak...but the mugen/j's or any vented hood, cooling mods, and an intake will def help a bit...

I love my J's Racing CF vented hood. There's significantly less bogging with it. And it doesn't even rain guards - I've had zero issues with water with either stock or PRM intakes. (And the car has been though some serious Texas rain storms.)

If you get the mugen hood, I would definitely go with the mugen intake. At least this way, you are putting the hump to use.
Also, I had the mugen combo and loved it. I could spray water directly on the hood and only a few drops actually got on the engine. Amazing stuff. In addition, the mugen hood helped a lot to disspate engine heat. I remember sitting in traffic watching the heat waves come from the vents
