Valve tapping noise from Over-rev?
I think I over-reved (2nd to 1st) last month. I still can't believe anybody on earth could shift to 1st gear instead of 3rd (not easy as 3rd-2nd shift).
anyway It was a very short over-rev.
man..I can swear it was a 3rd gear.. it resisted a little so I forced it (oh..I had a water bottle in cupholder).
my idle was fine. car still pulled strong. that was a month ago.
I found out (I just paid attention) that I could head little tapping noise.. (it sounded like my 100k miled prelude)...
Am I in trouble? I'm gonna adjust the valve soon..I hope they could check for retainer and valves by just taking the valve cover off...
oh how much for valve adjustment also~ thanks

A broken retainer will give no initial signs. It will just let go at any time. I've caught one car early enough, and just did retainers.
You can't see the actual crack in the retainer. But you can see a retainer that has walked upwards on the keepers. Only thing needed is to pull the valve cover, and a dentist mirror will also help.
