I agree with FCGuy that you do mods because you like it!
Personally, I purchased my S for what it had from the start.
Not to put on kinds of aftermarket stuff on/in it.
However, to each his own. ralper, to your original inquiry-
I believe mods would do less for a vehicle as a classic.

Mods hurt the resale value of the car in the short term. Once you "personalize" the car, you're going to have a harder time finding another person with your same taste. Plus, they wonder what else you have done they don't know about.

I think there will be some collective value to many sports cars in the future. When all the cars are running on hydrogen or whatever, the liquid dinosaur fueled auto will seem like a novelty worth having.
As far as modifications go they usually diminish value in the long run. My dad is a Corvette collector. In every car he purchases he looks for it to be as original as possible at the start. From there he "fixes" all the items that are not O.E. Its a lot of fun, but there is something to be said for the modified classic.
