VAFC: worth the money?
Bottom line: is it worth spending $300 for it plus a wiring harness? I've read all the posts about it but am so damn confused VTo, VTi, 5600 rpms, 5700 rpms,etc...... I had one in my Si but it didn't really yield too much hp gain. The place I took it to is one of the best RX-7 tuners in te country. So I would assume he knows what he's doing as far as tuning imports goes. I have a Spoon intake duct, Spoon drop-in filter (hallowed air box), JIC exhaust. And there have been such a variety of hp gains. Should I get it and have it tuned in the winter, spring? Please help. By the way, I miss the way it looked in my Si
Thanx,
Chris

You can get some gains out of it, but I wouldn't have it control VTEC engagement, the ECU does just fine on its own. If you're willing to spend $300 for a VAFC, spend less and get a VAFC-II.

I had one and I sold it when I upgraded my ECU and installed the gears. For the money you will spend for the VAFC, Harness, dyno, tune.. you could be your way to getting gears; which IMO is one of the best mods for the car. I was in your same spot, bought the VAFC, and was kicking myself later b/c it put me that much futher from gears. my 2 cents.
