Guys,
Today I finally hit 500 miles. I then decided to V-Tec my baby. To my surprise it was very strong. But I didn't feel the V-Tec until around 6500. Did anyone else experience this? I ran it all the way to 9000. I now enjoy
the car even more with the true power. When you first V-tec the car at what RPM did you feel the surge? Did it change with more miles? How often do you V-Tec? Did I V-Tec too early? Thanks for you time and don't stop till 9000...

I only managed 200 miles before my right foot became twitchy. The 1st time was in 2nd gear and I changed up at 7000rpm, I was initially disappointed as I didn't get the same kick as used to in my 94 Prelude VTEC. After 350 miles I tried again this time in 3rd gear and I let it go to 8000 rpm, this time the kick was there and it felt great, cars on my left just became blurs as the car accelerated fast.
I am now approaching 500 miles so last night I VTEC'd 2nd through 3rd changing at about 8000 rpm, the car was obviously accelerating fast but once again I felt a lack of kick compared to the prelude.
I think I may just be being a little bit apprehensive as I havn't reached the magical 600 mile barrier yet and hence I am thinking more about changing up rather enjoying the feel of the car. I should complete the 600 miles by the end of this week and hence when that happens I'll let her go to 9000 without the hesitation.
As for VTEC'ing before 600 miles I don't think it will do any harm providing its just the odd trip into the zone and the engine is warm.
Cheers

VTEC hits at around 6,200RPM. It may seem like it kicks in a little later when first using it as the linkages are not used to sliding across. Give yourself another 1,000 miles of VTECing and you will notice the transition comes in earlier and less abruptly.

Also, keep in mind that the S2000 is very sensitive to air conditions. When the air is 'good' the S2000 feels like a rocket, though if the air is 'bad' the S2000 feels almost average. I feel a big difference in the 'shove' that I get in my back depending on the air conditions.

UKJasonm - I think that you are correct regarding the transition into VTEC on the S2000 as compared to the Prelude. I had a 96 VTEC, and I believe that the change to VTEC was more noticable in that car than in my S2000. However, I believe that this is because the S2000 is making relatively more power than the Prelude before going VTEC, so the change isn't as noticable. Now, I rather enjoy the more smooth but rapid increase in power as the S2K winds up.

I finally hit 650 miles yesterday and had the chance to VTEC. After driving a miata for the past 8 years, I can't begin to tell you the joy that I felt as I hit 9000 rpm. I went through the toll booth in second gear and then punched it. The car screamed as I entered onto the tollway and right as the car hit 9000 rmp, I passed a Porsche Boxster S. I shifted to third and was off. He didn't pursue me but I'm sure he wondered where in the hell I came from. I can't wait to VTEC more. I've heard that you want to increment your VTECs, in other words, only VTEC every 300 miles for the first few thousand miles on your car. Any truth to this?
