Johnny - Your dreaming with those numbers - heck you can get brand new for less than MSRP - hate to bust your bubble but the price is droppping on both new and used as quick as the stock market is. Secondly, as I noted no one wants one with any mileage on them let alone 40 , 50 k miles.

A friend of a friend just test drove a brand new Suzuka Blue in NJ. With only a couple of miles on it, he VTEC'd the shit out of it.

If you want a perfect S2000, make sure you buy yours as it rolls off the truck.

Sparki,

If you don't think the S2K is worth much and you love Vettes, why are you wasting your valuable time on the S2Ki forum? I can see that a brilliant fellow like you would be a real asset to the Chevy forums.

As a sidebar, I consider whether someone is an owner before I put too much faith in their opinion. Owners may be biased but they have experience with the car and therefore more credibility.

This is my opinion but I'm betting the other owners will agree with me on this.

Cheers!

Acx - you may be right but the truth is the truth and it is a non owner that will be buying your USED S 2000 and believe me they will not fetch any where near what you paid for it. If you did not notice they are now selling for 30,650.00 new. Heck 2 in the paper now and no takers $4k for 2000 and $6 k for 2001. The price is really going to tumble with the release of the Z.

I understand why you feel the way you do. I have a Vette thank you - looking for something to beat on, realizing it will not go up in $$.

I have seen a few S2000's for sale with superchargers with under 5k miles on them..... Is there any way these are broken properly. I don't know If I would go for one.

In my opinion the S2000 is about to drop in value....how could it not, now that dealers are selling them at sticker or less. A lot of people who paid $35k+ are going to be screwed.

"Used - S2000 - Who wants them ?"

The better question is "who dumps them ?"

Sparki,

Is it possible you are trying to drive down the price of S2K's in your area so you can snatch one of these sweet babies for a steal?

Otherwise why would a happy Vette owner care what anyone pays for and S2K?

Your reasoning regarding the Z bringing down S2K prices seems weak. Yes the Z looks good on paper but there are several reasons I will not be buying one and other S2K owners or future owners will not be swayed. First the Z is not a convertible, the S2k is currently the most technologically advanced and best value convertible in the world (don't say Miata it is a different class). Thus the S2K only gets real competition from expensive Porsche Boxter S's. Second Honda/Acura has a better record of quality than Nissan. Case in point, if Nissan's are so good why are they the only Japanese car company bought out by the French due to their near bankrupt status, hmmm. Third, they claim the Z will be about 30K but I'm betting a loaded Z will be pushing 40K.

I'm willing to listen to good ideas and valid facts but pleeez a S2k for $4K! It has to be a salvage title with a blown engine, and fire damage! The seats, wheels, and tires sell for more than 4K.

Don't get me wrong this is not a personal argument, I just think you have to be aware of the facts before you make judgements.

BTW - I think Vette's are awesome, I just can't stand how primitive the old ones are, how unreliable the C3 & C4's are, and how freaking expensive the C5's are. But if someone was to trade me a 2002 C5 convertible for my S2K I would think really hard about it.

Later

PS: I sobered up and decided I would take the trade, sell the Vette, and buy another S2K. I almost lost my mind for a minute there.

I disagree. Even though they are not convertibles, new car models draw attention. They are also sports cars in the 30k range.

First, there are buyers who aren't sure with what they want that may be swayed to another vehicle. Unlike all the S love that is in this forum, this is a factor. Your example of the Corvette owner, is not the issue. It is people with no sports car, looking to buy one.

And when I'm dealing with a salesman, that is what I'm going to tell them to get a better deal. If the sales person gives me a hard time I'll tell them I'll buy something else. It's how I got our 2000 Civic SI considerably lower than what they wanted to sell for. You know, the sales man tells me Civic SI's are popular with kids and that they can easily sell it for more, blah blah. So I said we'd just walk next door and buy the Celica GTS (which we did test drive). He could have told me to walk, and they probably could have sold it for more, but they didn't.

If I walk in there telling them that the S is the only dream car for me, well. I suppose I could just walk over to the counter, drop my drawers and bend over. But that's not how I buy cars. If you act like a confused buyer, (which some people are), you'll get a better deal.

To add a note, S2000's have held their value well. And I wouldn't mind buying a used one, but not from the dealer.

I've seen a few with 8000 miles and they are asking 30k or 31k for a 2000 or 2001. That is ridiculous considering the improvements on the 2002.

If anything I would think the value of the 2000 and 2001 will drop considerably after another year or two of S2000's roll out.
