Default Used - S2000 - Who wants them ?

I see folks bitching about the dealer getting a new car in and they are worried that it has 30 miles on it - well who the heck is going to want one with 40 - 50 k on them? I can't see them being worth anything with that kind of mileage??

Well Sparki if you understood anything about cars or new engines in general, especially the engine in the S2000 you would know why. Cars with 30 plus miles when new tend to be ones that were used for test drives by customers or mechanics or other and have probably been abused(Vtec'd or even redlined often). That is why people are concerned. Cars that have 40k-50k miles while are used, these cars are Honda's and will probably run well into the 100,000+ miles.

Any questions, comments???

I bought mine with 24,000 miles for 28,000 and a 100,000 bumper to bumper warranty. It's a 2000 and was in perfect condition. I just wanted the car. I was happy to save $7000. I also got in on a finance special of 5.9 APR for 60 months. I am paying only $560 per month for my baby while many people are paying as much as $750!

Two different mindsets. When you pay the sort of high tag for a new car, you want it as close to *virgin* as you can get. Even one mile (if abused) means you ain't the first. But if you enter into the deal knowing you aren't getting a virgin, then your priorities change. In that case, you are probably going to want one with low miles or as stock as possible. A heavily modded used car becomes suspicious to the potential buyer hoping for that little old lady that just drove it to church. Price will ultimately balance the desire for newness and the acceptance of reality. Everyone wants a good deal and no one wants to get ripped off. Considering that the S2K will likely remain a rare car that's extremely well designed, I would predict a strong market for used S2Ks (even at high mileage) for quite a few years to come.

Well MJ as the dude noted in another post "me and my friend race them on to the boat during loading or unloading". My point is I believe (my opinion) the cars (s2000) will not be worth dittle once they have 30 - 40k miles - everyone knows they are beat.

Well sparki, I disagree(my opinion). I think the S2000 will retain its value very well at 30-40k miles.

I hope you are correct and they become as $$ as the Vette's etc. Still don't see it,especially since it is such a rush to push it to the 9000 rpm. But then again if you wanted a investment you would have purchased a 63 split window not a S2000.

I got mine with 3 miles on the odo. That was put on during transport. They basically rolled it off the truck after delivery and into the showroom where they wiped it with diapers. As soon as I bought it they surrounded it with velvet rope and told people looking at it (hands off). I understand the not wanting the 40 miler. I vtec'd one at a dealer that I test drove and you know it wasn't broken in.

The odometer VIN would not match the cars VIN. This is illegal, and when discovered puts a "Mileage Fraud" title on the car.

I did a couple of searches on Autotrader and the recycler. Looks to me like the S is holding value exceptionally well...
EDIT: These are all MY00

13M, $31,000
23kmiles, $27,500
23121 miles, $30995
17k mi, $30,988
30454 miles, $32995
34000 miles, $27999

Average Price: $29349 Lowest Price: $10100 Highest Price: $36995

The "lowest" is from an auction on ebay, buy it now price is $29,000

It's one of the few autos that are actually a decent investment.
