The report is a lame attempt to synthesize previous articles into a defintive summary. It fails miserably. What convinced me of its poor reporting was the section on the S2000's safety. The entire section is about appearance!

we got 3rd b/c of interior otherwise we would have won lol
which is stupid because it's the most driver-focused interior that really connects the driver to the car, the road, and the driving experience as a whole. i've been driving other sports cars lately and i must say that coming from my S2000, their interiors are shit.

AND "DATED DESIGN!?" wth..

9 years old doesn't mean it's dated. look at a 9 year old Mustang, BMW, Mercedes, etc. then you'll see dated..

The S2000 should have won the comparison, but it's low in torque and outdated interior was a big no no to them.

Besides, no one buys the S for the daily commute.
I did. It makes an excellent DD, and I am not a small guy....

Like everyone has been saying. you have to keep in mind who writes these articles and who they are directed towards. Now I assume most of us bought the S2000 for its performance abilities. We are enthusiasts, we account for a very small portion of the car owning population. The majority of the population buy their car for its practicality (gas mileage, space, safety, reliability). I really didn't take any of these factors into account when I bought mine.... well I was mindful of safety.

The Miata, which my dad bought after driving my S, has a lot that the S2000 is missing. The handling feels similar to the S2000, but without the raw feeling (I prefer the raw feeling). The power-retracting hardtop is a lot more convenient than my removable hardtop. The interior has quite a few more luxuries(again, I prefer the race car like interior). There are more vents, a better sound system, more USABLE cupholders and a quiet interior. The suspension is stiff enough to corner, but soft enough to enjoy the highway. The power is lacking as a sports car, but it has a lot more low end power than the S2000 (but no top end!). I think that the Miata is the experienced older brother who just isn't as athletic as the S2000 and gets better gas mileage. It's also a lot cheaper! I have to say that the smart key is really awesome.

What I like about the S2000 is that everything is from Formula 1. The digital cluster (which at first I hated, but now can't do without), the push button start, the simple interior designed with function>form in mind, the crazy stiff suspension, and the motor that keeps screaming long after the competition needs to shift. Everything that I love about the S2000 hurts its appeal to the masses. People don't want to feel every bump in the road, they want to feel torque when they hit the gas pedal and not wait until 6000rpms, and the soft top sucks. I talked to a Miata owner who told me that is what sold him to the Miata power retracting hardtop over the S2000.

The S2000 is better for those of us who can appreciate performance, where as the Miata is more for those who like the look of a sports car, but don't want to deal with what ownership entails on the road which doesn't include comfort.

....and I think affordable is quite objective. Do they mean under $40k?
