Default Unknown clunk in reverse this morning

This morning when I put car in reverse and started to release clutch to back out of my garage, a loud clunk came out of rear of vehicle somewhere. This happened once before. Car drove normal, no repeat. Has this happened to anyone else and is it something I should be concerned with, and is there something I should have checked? My first thought is the differential. I have 16000 miles. Should I have fluid changed, and if so will putting Mobil 1 dif. fluid or whatever the synthetic is called void the warranty?

Asked and answered dozens of times. You probably washed it before parking it. The brake pads stick when allowed to dry with the parking brake on. Thus the bang when they release.

Didn't wash it but had brought it in from a heavy rain. Thanks for easing my mind.

If it only does it the once, then its probably just the pads sticking. If you can then repeat it by going into 1st and forward, then reverse and back ...and if it happens again you have another problem. If you can repeat it there are loads of posts about this if you do a search on 'Clunk' or 'Drive'. It could then be to do with your CV joint cup.
