unhappy with adidas, happy meal didnt have a prize
just recently replaced my diff fluid with mobil 1 at 30,000 miles, bought the car with 20,000 miles so not sure if the fluid was replaced before. at first it felt smoother than before, but now shifting feels much clunkier than before, i can feel more while shifting than i would like to, and 3rd gear is giving me problems that ive never really had before. should i use something a little thicker? what feels the most like the stock diff fluid? am i just being a baby? you decide

The transmission and the diff are 2 totally different things. Perhaps the clunkiness but 3rd gear giving you problems should have nothing to do with the rear end. Sounds wierd to me, ever change the tranny fluid?

If you ONLY changed your diff and expected things to feel better, that explains why 10k later, the shifting feels lousy. Tranny fluid is what determines shift feel on our cars, and for *perfect* feel, it needs to be changed every 10-15k miles. Given thats about 3x more often than the owners manual suggests, and about 5x more often than people change it in most cars, but you WILL feel a difference with brand new synthetic fluid.

This thread is stupid. You start it off by dissing a product that is in a part of your car that has absolutely no effect on the quality of your shifting. You then later mention that you didn't bother to change your MTF...hmm, I wonder if maybe THAT could cause clunky shifting? Ya think?
Now if your differential started making clicking sounds after the switch to M1 gear oil, then maybe I could understand your frustration. But trying to relate differential fluid to rough/notchy shifting is just stupid. That's like changing your transmission fluid and saying that your engine revs smoother.
