Type-R S2000
can anyone enlighten me as 2 how comes honda never made a type-r verison to any of the s2k models? i mean, yea the s2k is a wonderful vehicle (looks, handlin adn power) but y wasn't a type-r version made like the civic, integra or nsx

Just my .02 but what is there to upgrade unlike an integra they made a better engine a better suspension. Gave it a lip and a wing eliminated the power stuff and stuck a badge on it calling it a "R". The S2000 already comes with a bad @ss engine, bad @ss suspension, and if you want a lower lip and wing. Oh yeah they gave it nice interior. Know that I think about it it would be nice to have suede interior.

I don't remember the magazine or book ( I think it was something like hyperrev ) but there was
interview about Type-HR SA2000 on Honda's SA2000 engineering group and the main reason that they can't make Type-HR SA2000 is that it is a convertible. They said that in order to name any
of their car a Type-R there is requirement:
1. Type-R should be able to run a circuit track without any preparation. Since S2000 is a
convertible, for some circuit tracks and race it does not meet safety requirement.
2. Semi-race car spec that can be driven on street. ( In my opinion S2000 qualify for that...)
3..Concept of S2000 was not focused on circuit track at all. So if they want to make circuit ready
Type-R (closed body or roll bar), it would not meet the S2000's original concept ( feel the nature
as you drive ). In another word for S2000 engineer it would be not be a S2000 if they modify
it to S2000.
So simply S2000 can not be made as Type-R because it is convertible and it was made as
convertible.
