Default turbo Question.

I was just wondering if it's the right thing to do, to tell the insurance co. that I have a turbo installed when I get one?

I think they raise your rates if you have a turbo installed, cuz you're in a different bracket of automobiles...kinda like having a v8 vs an inline 4. If you want it insured, they will also add on like 20-60/yr, as an aftermarket addon. Otherwise, if you don't tell them, they may not insure your car's engine/tranny if you ever have problems.

you might want to check with Wesmaster - he detailed some insurance quotes because of a stereo and supercharger/other mods - and it seemed to be ridiculously priced, if not impossible because the car had to be appraised. its been quite a while ago, but see what he says.

I know in Aus that if you have an accident and your doesnt have the engineer cert. for any peices that require it they can wipe your entire claim and your stuck with nothing but a wrecked car.

As for things like stereo I think that they keep anything if it is written off and you dont get compenstated for it. i.e if you write your car off and they take the claim you will not be covered for the extra cost of the aftermarket stereo.

BTW on top of this if you have to get something engineered it goes on your registration and therefore the insurance co. would know about it.
