TSB54 done 20K mi ago; noise back. Help!
I had my '00 clutch replaced (thanks to TSB54) in 4/01 with 17K on the odometer. Now, with the car out of warranty, the noise has slowly returned.
Now the car has 45K miles on it, and the noise is as bad as it was with the original clutch.
I contacted the dealer and AHM and they agreed to take a look at the car. Now I'm getting the old "this is normal" routine. The tech actually told me "they all start to make noise again; this is not a permanent repair and there's nothing you can do about it". They want $900 to change the clutch.
Anyone else have TSB54 and have the noisy deceleration return after some time? Any suggestions for how to deal with the dealer's suggestion?
Thanks much,
-Steve Riley

I have the same problem. A while after the replacement, I am getting the buzz back, according to the old bulletin, this fix is not permanent. However I also heard that Honda came out with a new clutch , part # ending -055 that the newere models use, which will solve the problem.

Just had my clucth replaced a second time. (my car had just exceeded 3 years @ 32k so it was out of warranty) The dealer had the tech drive the car and immediately approved my car for a warranty replacement. I had the old "-025" part put in back in 00, so the decell buzz came back in about 12k miles. Honda's current clutch part ending in "-055" is the fifth generation clutch. According to a reliabel source at AHM, this clucth has been well tested on the 02 press fleet and have not experienced a recurrance in the decell noises.
I recommend you approach the dealership again as the newest revision of the TSB allows for the re-replacement of an older clucth part. Good luck.

As harry mentioned, you can go through Star Clutch. I've dealt with them quite a bit over the past few years and carry their products as well. You can either have new items reworked or send your old stuff in to be reworked. However, I usually recommend complete new reworked kits.

Thanks everyone for your help. I didn't know there was a "-055" update to the clutch, and apparently the dealer (Russell & Smith Honda in Houston, TX) did not either until I told them the TSB had been updated.
Thanks to your info, AHM agreed to pay for the new clutch in full. I appreciate you saving me $900!
