I think you're overly worried about it.
I only brought it up due to those "HELP! HELP! My trunk is scorching hot!" topics here at S2ki.

My lenovo runs at least at 140 (Using the program speedfan). Good luck getting your trunk to 180+. Heat won't do much, its just bad for longevity for a laptop to be running hot.
I don't trust under my passenger seat. I kept my mp3 played under there, and every so often when I pulled it out it would be cut to hell, the metal literally scraped off leaving sharp areas. My thought is the passenger moved the seat around and a seat rail did the damage, but I honestly have no clue how it happened so now I don't keep it under there out of paranoia.

x2.

i work in electronic cooling and if the computer is off you should have no problem. most of those parts in consumer electronics are rated to temperatures around +85°C (thats +185°F for you 'mericans ) and i doubt you'll be getting anywhere near that with the computer off.

now if your computer was doing hardcore computations while in an enclosed trunk with very little ventilated air it'd be a whole different story...

It won't get hot enough to hurt your laptop.

I used to put my laptop under my passenger's seat when I was on my way to school. Perfect spot for it.

Use your laptop for 20 minutes or more, its going to be hotter then it will be on a 20 hour road trip in your trunk.

Well, you certainly have a well-chosen user name. I ask a reasonable question based on other s2ki topics -- I get fifteen reasonable replies and your steamer.
