Default Trunk release help!

I bought this Berlina Black about 3 months back and ever since have needed to turn the car off, get out, and unlock the trunk by hand. The trunk release thing has broken(?) off of the release mechanism and I finally have had time to take it off and work on it. Could anyone help me or provide me pictures of -working- trunk releases?

This is what I have so far:

The trunk release thingy:

Where the little prod thing goes?

Another angle:

Another one of the trunk release:

If anyone could help me out here I'd be greatly appreciatave. I can't really check my work without throwing it back on the car and that would take forever! Pictures would be great...

Thanks guys!

Actually, I just got it to work and see how it unlocks it. But it takes quite a lot of force and couldn't imagine the trunk release prode is that strong?

Maybe it's actually still functional and it's just partly seized. Try squirting silicone spray in it as much as you can and work it around. Or do you think there may have been a piece bent from being slammed the wrong way. In this case figure out what's restricting movement and see if it can be bent out of the way of what needs to move.

The trunk release itself will 'unlatch' when I press the button on the remote. It's just not connected to the actual trunk in any way.

I'm just not able to visualize what you're seeing and those pictures don't really help. Sorry.

My guess is someone disabled the trunk release button in the car so they didn't have to worry about people reaching in and opening the trunk if the top was down. Is there any tension in the console button when you push it?

It's an electrical switch, not something connected by a cable like a hood release. The "tension" shouldn't change. To disable it, all you would have to do is disconnect the wiring harness in the trunk.
It's more likely that the release solenoid got whacked and came detached from the lock mechanism. All that solenoid does is to electrically rotate the lock just like you would do when you put the key into the keyhole.

Dang these Hondas are high tech! Any chance someone cut the electrical wire to keep the signal from getting from the button to the trunk?

Saffron, do you have key fobs to lock and unlock the car, open the trunk, etc, or just car keys? Does the key fob work to open the trunk?

Any chance that you have a HUGE spoiler wing thing on the trunk lid? I say that because even the standard smallish Honda spoiler on the AP1's had a stronger replacement trunk spring as part of the installation kit to open the trunk lid. This would explain why your trunk would sound like it was releasing, but without popping up the lid.
