Transmission Question, New + Cold = Notchy?
Hi all, I am a new owner from the frozen northland, and I was wondering if the transmission on a new car has a very notchy feel when driven in cold weather. It has a feel like the syncromesh isn't particularly strong, or possibly that the gears are very straight cut like those on an old Corvette I had with an M22 transmission. Is this something common on all S2000's both new and old or is it just my car? If it's common, do the gears "wear in" as the miles add up?
I had heard that Honda was somehow "beefing up" the 02 transmission, and I had assumed form an older rental car I drove that they were talking about stronger synchro action, but now I am wondering if the change was something else.
Thanks in advance!
Rick

Use the search function, you'll find that this issue has been beaten to death.
And yes the issue is common in all S2000, before the gears are warmed up.
I don't know about the gears wearing in, because I have 13000 miles on the car and cold shifts still feel notch as it did when I first got it. May be even notchier after switching to Redline gear oil.

I haven't noticed any appreciable difference between the cold and warm operation of my transmission. It's notchy all the time! Two of my previous cars, a Porsche 944S2 and an Alfa-Romeo 164, were both noticeably "stiffer" when the temperatures dropped below 40 F, but not the S2000.

It's been colder these days and when I first start the car, it often won't go into first or reverse. Not sure why, could have something to do with me leaving it in first when I park (thus requiring going to neutral before reverse). No problem, I simply put it in second, then it goes into first/reverse easily. Pumping the clutch a few times doesn't help, nor does pre-loading the clutch with a bit of friction while engaging the gear. Really strange. Ah well, adds character to the car =)
