I'd say it is normal. I am sure your converter is operating as it should so that is not an issue either. If it was is would throw a eng light.

Sounds like the catalytic convertor is getting hot, not the transmission. Have you noticed loss of power? sign of the cat getting plugged...the cat runs sort of close to the transmission, btw.
I think the car does loss power when it's hot out but that's normal.

Guys come on...this is a performance car. This stuff is going to happen. Don't sweat it. If you are that worried then bring it in to a mechanic, but I had this car for a while and I can't count how many times the tranny got hot on me. It's fine.

If you want to feel heat from the transmission and shift knob just run an autocross and have a second driver. That will get things warmed up. I've got 86,000 miles on mine.

i vote to change thread title to: "hot tranny."

anyways, i've noticed that my shifter get warm and the central area warms on cooler days (when i can actually notice). no biggie, annoying that the side of my leg might get a little warm but bearable...

I mean, if you average 82mph, then you've got 6hrs of stops/sleep. (Still doesn't seem highly likely).
umm, 2 drivers.... simple. i do it at least once, if not twice a year.

It's normal. If you do some hard driving for half an hour or so then put your hand in the cup holder, it feels like an oven.
