Default Transmission Fluid Changed With Good Results

Add me to the list of owners who report a transmission fluid change has greatly improved the transmission feel.

I had a notchy 3rd gear since day one. As a result, I've been extremely careful about shifting into 3rd. After 10,000 miles of careful shifting, the notchy feeling all but disappeared; apparently the syncros, etc. finally bedded themselves in properly.

A week ago I had the transmissioin fluid changed. After putting in fresh Honda MTF I can immediately tell the difference in all gears. The car nows shifts like it should - that smooth as silk feel that I've read so often in the test write ups.

What made you decide to go with the Honda MTF instead of the GM Synchromesh everyone is raving about?

I did it while I was getting the spark plug upgrade and it only cost $30 to try the OEM product. Based on my experience I would say any change, irregardless of product, could make an improvement.

If I were to do myself I would probably would go with Redline - all my racing friends, some of who are excellent gearheads, swear by it. But at this point I see no need to try any other brand.

I changed my tranny fluid with Honda MTF as well, and it did make it smoother. However, that smoothness goes away pretty quickly. I switched to GM Synchromesh about 4500 miles ago, and it is still silky smooth. Don't bother trying the Redline products. They don't have a fluid that is really suited for this tranny.
